Privacy Policy

This policy explains how we handle personal information in the course of our work as an independent advisory and investment management firm. Our work supports African businesses, including SMEs, MSMEs and businesses in the creative industries, as they pursue growth, financing and investment opportunities. We aim to collect and use information carefully, for clear business purposes, and to limit access to people who need it.

Information we may handle

The information we handle depends on how you interact with us and the work involved. It may include your name, professional role and business contact details; information about an organisation you represent; and details you provide in connection with an enquiry, proposed engagement, investment or business assessment.

If an engagement requires reviewing a company’s operations, finances, ownership, plans or funding needs, we may handle relevant business records and information about people connected with that business. Please share only information that is relevant to the matter and that you are authorised to provide. We do not ask for personal information unrelated to our work.

How we use information

We use information to respond to enquiries, understand a prospective client’s needs, assess whether and how we can support a business, and deliver agreed advisory or investment management services. Information may also be used to communicate about an engagement, coordinate work with relevant parties, maintain business records, and protect the firm and the people we work with from misuse or unauthorised access.

The information used for each purpose should be relevant to that purpose. Where a request does not proceed to an engagement, we may retain a limited record of the enquiry as part of ordinary business administration, subject to applicable requirements and our retention practices.

Sharing and access

We do not treat information shared with us as material for general publication. Within our firm, access should be limited to people involved in handling an enquiry or carrying out the relevant work. In some engagements, it may be necessary to share relevant information with a client, prospective funding source, professional adviser or service provider. This should happen only where the work calls for it and the information is appropriate to share.

When providing information about a business or another person, consider whether they should be informed and whether you have permission to share it. We do not claim that every engagement uses the same sharing arrangements; the circumstances and scope of the work matter.

Retention and protection

We retain information for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purpose for which it was collected, for the duration of relevant business relationships, or to maintain appropriate records. Retention periods can differ depending on the engagement, the type of information and applicable obligations.

We take a careful approach to handling business and personal information and seek to restrict access to those who need it. No method of storing or transmitting information can be described as risk-free in every circumstance. For sensitive material, use an agreed channel where one has been provided and avoid sending information that is not needed for the work.

Your choices and questions

If you have shared personal information with us and believe it is inaccurate, unnecessary or was provided in error, contact your usual firm representative and explain the issue. We will consider the request in the context of the information, the engagement and any applicable recordkeeping needs. You may also ask what information is relevant to a proposed engagement before sharing it.

This policy describes our general approach and does not replace any engagement-specific terms or notices. Our practices may depend on the nature of the work and the circumstances in which information is received. If those circumstances change, we may update this policy to reflect our current approach.
